mit Would it be possible to write custom JS code to add a custom tab where you have a couple of inputs which then on the user submit calls my custom backend for images? Then supply these images into configurator for further processing? Whould it be hard is it possible?

Using jQuery or vanilla JavaScript, you can dynamically add a custom tab to the FPD UI. Make sure to give this new tab a unique ID or class to identify it later. To get this job done, you should find a prominent developer.
