Right now the types of colors I can choose are the same as the colours in my designs. 

Is it possible to add a different set of colours to text only?

Thank you - I found it, but it's still including the colors for the designs. Very weird!

You can enable the color picker or add specific colors for text. It can be done from FPD settings, visit Settings > Element Properties > Coloring. Here you will find options to add color to custom text.
